We have a group of 8 Ferrets at the centre that are on view in their enclosure and on the rear occasion that they are not fast asleep they can seen running about and playing.
Falconry (or Hawking) is the hunting of wild quarry in its natural state and habitat by means of a trained bird of prey.
Ferrets are a vital member of the falconer’s team. Without them we would have very little sport. They are fascinating but often under-valued little animals. A good ferret can be the making of a successful rabbiting expedition.
For millennia, the main use of ferrets was for hunting, or ferreting. With their long, lean build, and inquisitive nature, ferrets are very well equipped for getting down holes and chasing rodents, rabbits and moles out of their burrows, the hawks can then continue the chase above ground.
Hawks are easily trained to accept the ferret as a useful partner and will happily observe its efforts. without any attempt to attack.
